Giant Clothespin

Really, I must admit that I have a great fondness for clothespins. Years ago I remember my Mom hanging out clothes on the clothes line and her cute clothespin sack. Now, I hang my clothes out every week, too, but alas my clothespins are in a plastic bucket! Maybe I should be something about that....

Nowadays, you can find giant clothespins to decorate like this one that I used our Spice Cake Designer Fabric (#124066) and Button to "spice" it up.

Easter Eggs

Easter Eggs meet Blossom Builders

These are some goose eggs I recently made using both Gold Glow and Log Cabin Smooch Spritz. The eggs are paper mache and really fun to work with just like the glitter hen eggs. I didn't realize it, but I guess I make different kinds of Easter eggs every year. Since I like to decorate for all the different Holidays....well, it works are very good for me.

Gift Givers Lucky Day

Yesterday our Valentine's decorations came down and the St. Patrick's Day decorations went up....the granddaughter's were here and they love to help with all the holiday decorations. They wanted to do Easter because they know we have "a ton of those" as the oldest grandgirl reminded me. Made me laugh.....anyway, here is a shaker card we made recently in one of my Hostess Clubs.

Here is my card with the inside sentiment (retired).

To make the actual shaker part of the card, I used the large circle and scallop circle punches with the Stampin' Up Shaker Frames. Then added the circle punched window sheet on top of the glass glitter and Shaker Frame....they make it so easy to make these shaker cards.

Studio PA

This is day 2 of my Studio PA tour.....

If you want to see the beginning of my Studio tour, it began on Saturday and you can see the blog post here.

My Stampin' Up! clear-mounted stamps are stored on this great shelf found at Goodwill.

Old cassette holders now house my ink pads....this style works great for me since I don't have much desk space.

Our old TV armoire now houses my wooden stamp sets, large punches and below much of my paperwork.

A vintage index file stores all of my ink refills.

I store my cardstock in this great rack that my husband found at a yard sale for $5. Love it!

My tool boxes!

My 6 month old Chi-Chi is my constant companion in my Studio.

Here is Chi-Chi with his older "sister", Sluggo, our Boston Terrier....they love to keep me company and I love to make scrapbooks about them.

Another little Goodwill rack that stores my background stamps.

I keep a piece of shelf liner under my Big Shot to hold it tight on my table. Works great! Another tip is to tack a yard stick along the edge of your desk or table...makes it so easy to measure ribbon or twine. Love quick!

Punch storage

Some ladies declined to participate in the Blog Hop because their Craft rooms weren't clean or ready for photographs, but I don't think mine will ever really be ready....as you can see, I need to put Designer Series Paper on these containers to hide the containers and make new tags. Alas, I don't know when I will ever get all the "pretty" done in my Studio, so here it is just as it is....in need of pretty, but functioning every day just for my enjoyment. And I will tell you that I truly do enjoy it!

I am a scrapper, a paper artist, and a collector of anything that appeals to my senses! My husband and I are junkers and love to scour flea markets, yard sales and sometimes the trash for items that can be used in unusual ways for storage or in my art. I try to incorporate my layouts and mini albums (another obsessions of mine) around the house because they inspire me to continue to create. My granddaughters have even caught the bug and love to make cards and scrapbook.

As you browse through my room, you'll notice that I have lots of "prettying" up to do....I need to add pretty labels here and there, decorate some tubs, etc., but I really have concentrated on getting organized!

So without further adieu, here is my Studio PA where I spend a great portion of my days! It might not be the fanciest or the prettiest or the biggest, but it's mine and I am happy here---that's what counts, right? I hope you enjoy this tour.

Because I took so many pictures, I will post the rest of my room on Monday, February 20 so be sure and stop back.

I like to spend my money on my supplies so my furnishings and storage are from a variety of very frugal sources. My Borther-in-law gave me the roll-around little table after he found it in the trash. My husband found the 8 foot table that became my desk in the trash in a nearby town. Can't beat free!

My white shelves from Wal-Mart hold a variety of my supplies. Some of those supplies are shown in detail below.....

I use a Dymo Label maker to mark my Big Shot dies....I plan to label a lot of other items in the future....need more time in my days....

I keep my smaller Big Shot dies in my empty Clementine boxes and, yes, I plan to decorate them with our Designer Series Paper, but it hasn't happened yet. It is on my list. LOL

Lots of buttons, beads, and embellishments fit into these containers.

I love our Stampin' Up! Paper Holders. They work well on my shelves and protect my papers from the sun yet visible and easy to reach.

Another item on my white shelves is a recyled wine rack (yes it was someone else's trash), but it makes 3 great extra little shelves to hold all my extra pens and sharpies.

On top of my shelves, I have baskets of ribbon scraps.

Mixed Bunch Frame

There are so many wonderful projects you can make with your rubber stamping and scrapbooking supplies. Like this beautiful frame that my sister, Sandy England a fellow Demonstrator made for me to celebrate my birthday and my new puppy, Chi-Chi.

I love how Sandy added the Twine, Dazzling Diamonds and Rhinestones for bling, but mostly I love that she took the picture of me in my SU apron with little Chi-Chi in my pocket. What a great keepsake this is.....thanks, Sandy.

Glitter Easter Eggs

Decorating Easter eggs is a lifelong activity that a lot of us enjoy at least once a year....as children, as parents and later as grandparents! These wonderful orbs offer a great challenge to some of us because they offer a wonderful shape to work with and after Winter....well, we are thrilled to try out the Springtime colors on those eggs. It is a special Easter ritual. It is true what they say, though, and eggs aren't just for Easter anymore. You see them popping up in home decor, on Christmas trees and throughout the year.

In years past I've tried my hand at some different types of eggs...

And today I have my beautiful glitter eggs to share with you. These are a lot of fun to make and add a lot of sparkle to your centerpiece or basket!

Papers: Various Designer Series Paper Scraps

Tools and Accessories: paper mache eggs (non-SU); Fine Galaxy and Fine Supernova Gitter (page 201) in Champagne, Chocolate, Olive, Orange, Aqua; Butterfly Punch; Tombow glue; Tissue paper (non-SU), old paint brush

I mix my Tombow glue with water (1/2 glue to 1/2 water ratio) to make my own Modpodge. I save the little snack containers that my little granddaughters use to mix my concoctions. They make great free mixing bowls.

Choose a tissue paper that is close to your glitter color. Cut the tissue paper wide enough to go around the egg and overlap about 1 inch. It needs to be about 2 1/2 times longer than the the egg. Cut narrow strips on both ends of the tissue paper to make it easy to glue it to the shape of the egg.

The tissue paper is just to add a color beneath the glitter. Use an old paint brush to paint your egg and you just wrap it around the egg. By cutting the strips at the end, you can easily color the odd shape of both ends of the egg.

Using your brush, again cover you egg with your Tombow mixture and roll in your glitter. Use a jelly spoon to insure complete glitter coverage by spooning glitter all over the egg.

Allow to dry for 24 hours.

Mixed Bunch

The middle of February already!? Are you kidding me? I guess this year is going to race at lightening speed. Guess I better get used to it because time just seems to be flying by with no sign of ever slowing down!

My 2012 goal of getting more organized are going very well. I've been sorting out paper....of which I seem to have accumulated stacks....filing ideas worth keeping....well, you know the drill! It feels good to simplify my paper processes. Sometimes I feel like my inbox could swallow me up.

You may have read on my blog that Stampin' Up! is offering a free

There aren't a lot of pictures of my sister and I when we were young, so I've scanned a lot of the ones that I have to use in my scrapbooks and other projects. MDS makes this so much easier.

I added stitching with my sewing machine.

Tools and Accessories: Sewing Machine, My Digital Studio, Glass Glitter, Vintage Brads, Fleurettes II, Paper Daisies, Seam Binding, Tulle (non-SU), Mini Vintage Tag, Smooch Spritz, Basic Pearls, Postage Stamp Punch

In-between my two layers of First Edition DSP I added a piece of SU DSP cardboard backing (white cardboard from the Designer Series Paper packages). It gives wall hangings a nice stiffness.

I used an empty SU brad container filled with some water and a couple of drops of Pumpkin Pie ink refill to dye my Paper Daises and Fleurettes II.

Tombow glue was used to adhere the Glass Glitter to the tulle and heart. I used my Smooch Spray all over the distressed Heart and my MDS items.

The Sweet Stitches Fabric is torn in strips to help give the project that Shabby Chic look.

Greatest Moments is the Stamp/Brush Set that I used in MDS to print the sentiments. I used the same set to add the words on the photograph.

Tips & Tricks for the new Paper Doily Sizzlits Die

With the Paper Doily Sizzlits Die (item 125592) you can now create the intricate designs you've grown to love with our Sizzlits Dies, in a new, larger size!

A few tips and tricks:

Because of variations in materials, you will most likely need to use a shim (such as piece of card stock) when you send it through the Big Shot.

The detailed intricacy comes with a little added work. The negative pieces will not come out automatically when you cut the die.
- It may take a little time to remove all the cut pieces from the die-cut paper. Remove the pieces by poking or punching them out. Carefully, push the pieces through the cut design and remove them from the back. Make sure you work from the front side of the doily (the side that was face-down when it was cut) and push the pieces through; if you try to pull them out from the front or if you push them through from the back side, the doily might tear. To make it easier, gently roll the die-cut paper to pop out some of the larger pieces.
- Push the pieces out using the Paper-Piercing Tool or the small end of the Simply Scored Stylus.
- The front side will look completely cut through, however, the back side may not. This is normal with this die, and if you follow the directions of removing the small pieces you will find that the die has cut through the paper.
Because of the intricate design of this die, small pieces might stick in the foam on the actual die. Clear all small pieces from the die before using it again. This will ensure you get a clean cut every time. Remove the remaining pieces by using your Paper-Piercing Tool, being careful not to tear the foam on the die.

One of the techiniques I've head about (and used) is to take a lint roller and roll it over the foam to help remove all the small pieces. While it doesn't always remove all pieces, it definitely helps in cutting down the amount of work! :o)

The most important thing to remember is that with the intricate delicacy and detail comes some added work. The larger Sizzlits dies require a bit more time to use than other dies and there is a certain amount of hands-on effort involved in creating with these detailed designs. However, you will find with the gorgeous finished piece, the little bit of extra effort is totally worth it!

Snow Much Fun

Let me say that I take Punxsutawney Phil very seriously, so I thought it was a great time to share some wonderful snowmen samples that were shared with me at a recent Janet Wakeland Demonstrator meeting that my team and I attended.

There are a lot of great snowmen here and many feature the stamp set, Snow Much Fun found on page 35 of our large Idea Book and Catalog. This set is great for Christmas, but it is also terrific for winter Birthday's, Thank You's and many other Winter occasions.

Just had to share a picture of our pups with you today. Our little one turned 6 months old last week and he is just way too cute to say! He makes us laugh every single day and is just such a lovely-dovey. He and his big sister romp and play all over the house with stuffed toys, chews, and every size ball that has ever been made. Well here they are taking a little nap in my Studio.

Morning Cup

Recently, my DH and I enjoyed our 3-day annual celebration of our birthdays and wedding anniversary. We love how the 3 consecutive days give us an excuse to choose a different way to kick-back and relax or go for the all out party!

Thought I would share a picture of the beautiful roses my husband surprised me with for our anniversary this year. They were such a rich, velvety red.

I've dried the roses and am hoping to make some paper with them for a special project. Should be fun!

Several of you have emailed me and asked how I like Windows 7, well, it's different! That's how I sum it up. I'm getting used to it, but it has been a slow process for me....everything is named something a little bit different, located in a different place and well it just works differently! Windows 7 has some great improvements, unfortunately for me it takes me a while to catch on. LOL Now that I'm back online with email and I've imported my favorites....well, I'm ready as I will ever be to get back to posting on my blog. Thanks for your patience.

GRANTS THREE-YEAR-OLD'S WISH

Here's the note Stampin' Up! posted for us about Birklee and her new play set!

Three-year-old Birklee has a new wooden play set, a play set that she enjoys playing on with her family and friends. The play set helps take her mind off the things that a typical toddler shouldn't have to be worried about, things like surviving hypoplastic left-heart syndrome (HLHS).

Birklee received the play set through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, when Stampin' Up! granted her wish. We work with the foundation to grant the wish of at least one child every year, on behalf of our demonstrators and in lieu of an annual Christmas card.

"Through this donation, we hope our demonstrators feel how much we love and appreciate all they do, and that we celebrating our shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of those around us," says Shelli Gardner.

Stampin' Up! shares Make-A-Wish's commitment to children, and we especially appreciate the organization's desire to "enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy."

Birklee wish has certainly done that. The play set was completed recently, and Birklee and her family and friends celebrated with a fun princess party.

2012 Color of the Year: Tangerine Tango

Pantone has chosen the new colour of the year for 2012: Tangerine Tango, a vibrant red-orange that they say builds on the verve and vigor of last year’s colour, Honeysuckle, by continuing “to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward”.

Are people really going to update their wardrobes, homes, and gardens just because Pantone has chosen a color for the year? Probably not, but I must say that in the past I have been strangely drawn to the colors they have chosen, and that’s before I knew there was a color of the year.

Pantone says that the color of the year selection is a very thoughtful process. To arrive at the selection, they quite literally comb the world looking for color influences. This can include the entertainment industry and films that are in production, traveling art collections, hot new artists, popular travel destinations and other socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from technology, availability of new textures and effects that impact color, and even upcoming sports events that capture worldwide attention.

So what do you think? Do you like the colour? Will it have any impact on your choices next year in your paper crafting or otherwise?

Another Advent that I made this year for my Craft Fairs used the Stocking Punch and the 25 and Counting Stamp Set. The stockings store easily in a tin from year to year. Each day you place a stocking on your tree.

25 and Counting Advent

25 and Counting is one of those unique stamp sets that I can see using for years and years to come. I love coming up with different ways to use this set, but today I have the traditional Advent frame to share with you. I made a total of 8 of these this year. Two of them have family pictures beneath the Peekaboo Frame flaps.

My granddaughters helped choose the pictures to put under each Peekabook Frame. This is a great project to do with children. We have 4 generations and pets on our Advent.

This was the process for fitting everything on the 12 x 12 page. We used lots of punches.

It is the season of Craft Fairs for me. Today, I have my Elegant Crystal Ornaments....they are made to hang on the Christmas tree or wall! These are a great upcycle project because you can re-use crystals from vintage lamps and chandeliers...you can also re-use vintage silver coasters that are out-of date.

You can find silver coasters and crystals at flea markets, thrift stores and yard sales. The hunt is part of the fun!

To get shimmer and shine, I used Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz on my paper, Glass Glitter, and Rhinestone Brads on some of my ornaments.

Pulled Pastels

Lovely as a Tree

The "Pulled Pastels" technique is one of my favorite to do. It is fun, easy and makes a big impact. Sometimes I play around with colors and cards and get some fun images. None is better then my old stand-by, Lovely as a Tree.

Stamp Sets: Lovely as a Tree, Jolly Old Saint Nick (retired), Plant Hope, Blessings from Heaven

Papers and Inks: Bashful Blue Pastel, Versamark, Bashful Blue, Basic Black, Whisper White, Shimmery White

Tools and Accessories: Pastels, Taffeta Ribbon, Glue Dots, Daubers, Dazzling Details

Pulled Pastels (some call this Reverse Pastels) is accomplished by rubbing your dauber all over a dark piece of cardstock. Ink a stamp with the Versamark pad and stamp onto the chalked cardstock. The stamp will "pull" off the chalk, leaving a negative image. It works great with a bold or very detailed image.

Tip: If you don't have any of our daubers, you can use a cotton ball. I tested it and found it used a lot more of my pastels, but it will work in a pinch.

Sympathy Card

It seems when I need a sympathy card that I'm never in the mood to make one, so it is always good to have several on hand. That way I can just pull my cards out and choose one out that suits the family I need to send the card to at the time. Otherwise, I ponder and ponder.....usually taking way to long to come up with a simple design that isn't all black. Many of you probably know what I mean. Here is a card I made at a recent Janet Wakeland Demo meeting. I love the choice of Concord Crush.

Gift-Giving Idea Blog Hop

It's Holiday Gift-Giving time!

Today's project is perfect for the pre-teen and teenagers in your life to hold their special treasures. These plain little muslin bags can be transformed into fanciful, cherished bags with some Gesso and Stamps.

I used my Clear Block and stamped the bag with Gesso. Gesso can be found in any Art or Craft Supply store. I placed a piece of cardboard inside the muslin bag before applying the Gesso. Let the Gesso dry completely before stamping. You can paint the Gesso on with a paint brush if you don't want to use your Clear Blocks, but the Clear Blocks make it quick and easy.

Replace the cardboard and then stamp with Classic Ink in a variety of colors.

Tip: I used our Basic Black marker to outline the Button Buddies Pig to make him stand out on the Gesso.

Cardinal on a Branch

Today's card is perfect for Christmas, but just change the Cardinal's paper color to blue and you have the Blue Bird of Happiness....just perfect for any occasion. Punch art is nice to use any time, but it is a great pinch-hitter when you don't have a stamp set to fit the season/occasion or when working with children. Kids love to help make things out of shapes! Maybe that is why as big girls, we like to play with punches, too.
